Internship opportunities

MRC funded students have access to internship opportunities with a range of non-academic organisations, including industry, science communication and policy agencies. Through these opportunities you will gain valuable work experience and transferable skills.

The Royal Institution internships

The Royal Institution (Ri) is looking for a Phd student to join them for a three-month science engagement internship at the Ri. This placement is ideal for students interested in science education and communication, and education outreach.

The Royal Institution is world-renowned as the home of science and offer internships annually. Successful applicants join the Royal Institution's team of media producers and digital communication professionals for a 3-month placement to gain experience of digital media and science communication. There will be different start dates and flexibility for the right candidates. The roles are usually based in Central London so students may will be expected to base themselves within or near to London for the period of the placement.

Applications for the Turing Internship Network are now open.  Please read the call document and the internship role descriptions carefully on the website before applying. To be considered, all applications must be completed and submitted by 21 June, 14:00 BST.

Key dates for prospective interns

  • May 2024: Applications open

  • June 2024: Review Stage

  • July 2024: Interview Stage

  • September 2024: Onboarding process/internship starts

 

UKRI Policy Internships

As part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)’s postgraduate training portfolio, the UKRI Policy Internships scheme provides an opportunity for UKRI-funded doctoral students to undertake a three-month placement at one of a selected group of influential policy organisations.
