Eligibility criteria

We welcome applications from talented students with an appropriate biomedical science, biology, or biochemistry related degree. Entry requirements are stated on each project advert, and applicants should hold, or be expected to obtain, at least a 2:1 (or equivalent) undergraduate degree in a relevant subject. Many successful candidates also have a Master’s qualification or relevant research experience, but this is not always essential.

When applying, you will be asked to select two projects and must be able to meet the entry requirements of each project. Please refer to the individual project adverts on FindAPhD for details of specific requirements for that institution.

Admission to the DTP is highly competitive, and last year we received over 1,300 applications for the 40 studentships.

We welcome applications from well qualified international candidates, but the number of places for these students is extremely limited. Fees are covered for successful international fee status students but candidates are required to meet all visa charges, healthcare surcharges, and relocation costs.

Equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) statement

The DiMeN DTP partners are wholly committed to increasing the diversity of individuals undertaking research and to ensuring that they do so in a supportive and inclusive training environment. Diversity strengthens our research community, we actively encourage applicants from diverse career paths and backgrounds and from all sections of the community, regardless of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation and transgender status. All appointments are made on merit.

As part of our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, the DiMeN DTP operates an anonymous shortlisting process. This choice means that information which could reveal your identity or background is removed before applications are reviewed.

When completing Section D of the application , please include the subject area(s) of your previous degrees (for example, BSc Biochemistry or MSc Molecular Biology), but do not include the name of the awarding university or institution.

Our approach is designed to reduce unconscious bias linked to institution or location, helping us to ensure that all applicants are assessed fairly and consistently on their research potential, motivation, and suitability for the programme.
