About Us

The DiMeN Doctoral Training Partnership is united by the research vision of ‘Discovery Medicine across the Lifecourse’, linking internationally recognised centres of research excellence to advance discovery medicine and provide superb doctoral training opportunities.

Funded through the Medical Research Council, DiMeN brings together the expertise of five world-leading universities: Leeds, Liverpool, Newcastle, Sheffield and York, to address some of the most pressing health challenges facing people today.

Now in its tenth year, the programme provides a collaborative research community to train the next generation of biomedical researchers.  Each year we recruit and fund around 40 students to work on PhD projects across our strategic research themes:

  • Infection and Global Health

  • Cancer

  • Multimorbidity, Frailty and Diseases of Ageing

A cross-cutting theme of Medical Technologies, Informatics and Quantitative approaches
aims to boost data science, quantitative skills training, and technology development across our partnership.

DiMeN students benefit from exceptional research training and support, with interdisciplinary research opportunities, access to outstanding facilities and expertise, and enhanced funding and training to support career development and research excellence.
