Project requirements and
Supervisor Eligibility

  • Only submit one Standard or iCASE project as the primary supervisor (there is no limit on applications as secondary/tertiary supervisor)

  • The primary supervisor must be located within a DiMeN partner institution (University of Sheffield, Leeds, Newcastle, Liverpool or York) and not have received a DiMeN studentship within the 2024 entry cohort as the primary supervisor. Please check with your institutional DiMeN lead regarding eligibility to be a PhD supervisor, and with respect to participation in the DiMeN programme.

  • Projects must have a minimum of two supervisors with complementary expertise (secondary/tertiary supervisors may be located outside the DiMeN partnership).

  • We emphasise the importance of non-academic partners and collaborative projects with industry as a strategic priority for the DTP.  DiMeN is actively seeking projects for iCASE awards or with the potential for iCASE conversion within the first 12 months.

  • There is an expectation that DiMeN supervisors will have other, active sources of research income during the studentship to provide a well found lab. Supervisors are expected to engage with the running of the DTP and contribute to the recruitment and training of DTP cohort students through participation in workshops, sharing of expertise, seminars etc.

  • Projects need to be compliant with institutional PGR supervisor regulations, especially with regards to compulsory supervisor training.
