I was lucky enough to receive funding to work with transgenic animal models. I have always been a passionate in vivo scientist, with a dream of working in the future as an establishment license holder. However, up until this point I had never had the opportunity to work with transgenic lines, an invaluable and important tool for medical research.

This funding allowed me to work with a highly novel mutant line of mice that had altered expression of the key cytokine, interleukin-1β, and work closely with experienced staff to understand how these lines are maintained, monitored and used. This experience will be critical for my future, where an understanding and experience of these lines will be necessary. This was a fantastic opportunity afford to me by the MRC, and I am very grateful!
